American soccer prodigy Freddy Adu began a two-week trial Monday with Manchester United of the English Premier League.
The 17-year-old trained with players from the club's youth academy as the senior squad made its way to Glasgow for Tuesday's Champions League game against Celtic.

Adu, who plays for D.C. United of Major League Soccer — the top professional loop in the United States — is not allowed to appear in a competitive match for Manchester United because he does not have a British work permit.
Rival club Chelsea has also expressed interest in signing Adu away from D.C., but FIFA transfer rules state he can not join a new team until June 2, 2007.
Adu, who was born in Ghana and moved to the United States with his family in 1997, became the youngest athlete to appear in a U.S. pro sports game in the modern era when he debuted with D.C. United as a 14-year-old in 2004.
This season Adu scored two goals in 32 games, including 29 starts, for D.C.
The team finished first in the MLS Eastern standings before falling to the New England Revolution in the conference semifinals.
