Luca Toni is set to get his wish and transfer to AS Roma from Bayern Munich, the Italian club announced on Thursday.

AS Roma agreed to sign Italian striker Luca Toni on a six-month loan deal from Bayern Munich on Thursday.

The Italian club said in a statement that Toni will join from Saturday till June 30 on a free transfer if he passes medical tests.

The 32-year-old Toni had been out of favour with Munich coach Louis Van Gaal since the pair fell out earlier this season.

Toni said Roma was the only team he wanted to join despite interest from clubs in Italy and England, and wants to use the move as a way of regaining his place in Marcello Lippi's Italy team.

Toni hasn't featured for the world champions since Italy's disappointing showing at the Confederations Cup in June.

"We hope to find ourselves there [at Roma] on Jan. 2 and have six great months," Toni told an Italian radio station on Tuesday.

"I am desperate for this. I want this situation to be resolved, and in the end this situation has to happen."

Since joining Munich in 2007, Toni has scored 38 goals and helped the team win the German league and cup double in 2008.
