Major League Soccer announced on Wednesday that Columbus midfielder Guillermo Barros Schelotto is suspended for the Crew's game on Thursday against New York Red Bulls.

The 2008 league most valuable player earned the one-game suspension for his actions in the team's 1-0 victory over Chivas USA on May 15. While on the attack late in the game, Schelotto elbowed Chivas defender Michael Umana in the face.

The officials on the field missed the incident, which featured two players who had been jostling earlier in the game. Umma earned a yellow in the first half for a foul on Schelotto.

To add insult for Chivas, Schelotto went on to score on a penalty kick in the 90th minute to lift the Crew (4-0-2), keeping them as the only club in the MLS Eastern Conference yet to lose.

The Argentine star has accounted for four of 10 goals Columbus has scored this season. The 37-year-old was MVP of the final when the Crew beat the Red Bulls in the 2008 championship game.
