The Montreal Impact acquired centreback Mamadou (Futty) Danso from the Portland Timbers on Monday in exchange for a second-round pick in the Major League Soccer SuperDraft.

The 31-year-old Danso has played 60 games, 56 as a starter, for the Timbers since 2011.

Danso fills a pressing need for experience on the injury-wracked Impact central defence, which saw Nelson Rivas return last week only to have to leave two minutes into his first start of the season.

Danso started nine of 10 games for Portland this season.

He joins fellow Gambian international Sanna Nyassi in Montreal. Danso has 10 caps for his country and played in all six World Cup qualifying matches over the past two years.

It's the third trade made by the last-place Impact (2-6-4) this season. They earlier acquired striker Jack McInerney and midfielder Issy Nakajima-Ferran.
