Spanish defender Adrian Lopez Rodriguez is joining the Montreal Impact.

The signing will be made official when Rodriguez gets his international transfer certificate.

Known as "Piscu", the 26-year-old Rodriguez has played in Spain's first division with Deportivo de La Coruna and the English Premier League with Wigan.

Montreal sporting director Nick De Santis says Rodriguez will be a key part of the club's defensive line.

The team still has 11 foreign players on its roster as Nelson Rivas has been placed on injured reserve.

The Impact also signed designated player Hernan Bernardello of Argentina earlier this week.
