Spain wins World Cup

It's a family affair!

I grew-up Indian-East African, with a Serbian-English aunt, an Italian uncle, and an English step-mother. Sounds like the typical twenty-first century Canadian family, doesn't it?

Dysfunctional in many ways, yes. But arguably exactly the right fit to hurtle through soccer's grand battle. Every four years when the beautiful game sounds the call to action around the world, conversations around my dinner table ignite into fireworks.

Similar experiences are shared by millions of people in this country. Where else in the world could you fly the flag for say Portugal, and see supporters of Brazil, Cameroon, and England on just your block, alone?

brazil superfan pic.jpgWhere else in the world can we say supporters from each of the 32 participating nations can shop in the same grocery store? Where else can we say the passion for world-cup takes a hold of a family's pride within their household and well...their vehicles?

Here's a snap shot of one of our CBC Sports Superfans showing us his world cup experience.

Fly your flags high this World Cup, Canada. For we're lucky to be in a place were we can let our pride for our homelands shine through.

And, tell me if it's YOUR World Cup family affair as well.
