What's at stake
A spot in the semifinals in a match against the winner of Netherlands vs. Brazil.
Player to watch for Uruguay
Luis Suarez — The hero for Uruguay in the Round of 16 match against Mexico. The striker scored both goals in a 2-1 victory — including the winner in the 81st minute, a firecracker of a shot that will stand as one of the best goals of the World Cup. Has three goals so far in the tournament and will be looking for more here.
Player to watch for Ghana
Richard Kingson — Was brilliant as the last line of defence against a determined U.S. side in the previous round, turning away several high-quality scoring chances before Asamoah Gyan became the hero for Ghana in extra time. Has conceded three goals in four games so far and will need to be sharp against a potent Uruguayan attack.
Key matchup
Diego Forlan and Suarez vs. Kingson — The Black Stars will need their keeper to be vigilant in net, especially against top scoring threat Suarez and fellow Forlan — who's in the form of his life right now — if Ghana is to keep the African dream alive at the World Cup.
The Uruguayan perspective
"We are well prepared — we are having a good World Cup. We are following the instructions of [coach Oscar] Tabarez and we are confident we can reach the semifinals to give joy to our people." — striker Diego Forlan
The Ghana perspective
"Uruguay are a difficult side but we don't care who we are going to play against. We are ready to play against anybody." — striker Asamoah Gyan
World Cup head-to-head
These two sides have never met in the World Cup.
