A spot in the quarter-finals in a match against the winner of Uruguay-South Korea.
Player to watch for United States
Landon Donovan — The American has been one of the best players at this tournament, scoring critical goals (such as the injury-time winner against Algeria) and leading by example on the field with his stellar play.
Player to watch for Ghana
Asamoah Gyan — The talented striker has led the offensive charge for the Black Stars in South Africa, scoring both of his country's goals. He'll have to be at the top of his game to find a way through a well-organized American defence.
Key matchup
Carlos Bocanegra vs. Asamoah Gyan — Gyan is the only player who has found the back of the net for Ghana at this tournament and is his country's most dangerous attacking player. If central defender Carlos Bocanegra can neutralize him, the Ghanaians will be in big trouble.
The American perspective
"This experience that we have right now and the excitement that we're feeling, we want to have that same feeling at the end of the game [against Ghana]. There's a lot of work to be done now and we have to get focused, mentally and physically, for the next opponent." — Maurice Edu, midfielder
The Ghanaian perspective
"We are on the right path and we are representing our continent, which makes us very happy." — Asamoah Gyan, striker
World Cup head-to-head
Ghana defeated the U.S. 2-1 in the group stage of the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
