Player to watch for Denmark — Christian Poulsen: One of the toughest holding midfielders in the game today, the 30-year-old is at his best when he's toeing the line of respectability on the pitch, but his fiery temper nearly assures that he'll cross it at some point — and he's already in a bad mood after his horrendous giveaway led to Cameroon's goal in the Danes' last match.

Player to watch for Japan — Tulio Tanaka: The Brazilian-born defender's toughness, footwork and strength in the air have made him a fixture on the backline for Japan, and he showed how influential he could be against the high-flying Dutch in Japan's last game, as his sharp tackling and positioning turned away wave after wave of Netherlands attackers.

The Danish perspective: "Japan have a good group of players who are fighting for their country. They are proud to play for Japan. They have a good coach who has a good knowledge of football." — coach Morten Olsen

Player to watch for Netherlands — Wesley Sneijder: The attacking midfielder is a star for club side Inter Milan, and he can beat defenders a number of ways: with his passing, his pace or his boot.
