FC Dallas coach Schellas Hyndman has been voted MLS coach of the year after leading his team to its first playoff ppearance since 2007.
MLS announced the honour Thursday. Dallas had a 19-game MLS unbeaten streak and finished 12-4-14 in league play, tied with San Jose (2005) and Real Salt Lake (2010) for the fewest losses in an MLS season.
Dallas knocked off defending champion Real Salt Lake in the first round of the playoffs and will play the Los Angeles Galaxy in the Western Conference championship on Sunday.
Hyndman was Southern Methodist's coach for 24 years before replacing Steve Morrow at Dallas in June 2008, when the team was 4-5-4.
Dallas went on to finish 8-12-12 and in fifth place in the Western Conference, and continued to build last season before finally breaking through.
