Confederations Cup: Facts to know
The Confederations Cup is, in effect, a dress rehearsal for the World Cup, which be held in 2014 in Brazil.
The nation will host the Confederations Cup next summer, but will first hold the traditional draw set for Saturday at 8:25 a.m. ET.
Here are some facts to know about the seventh installment of this event:
- Brazil: Host country
- Italy: Europe
- Japan: Asia
- Mexico: Champions North, Central America and Carribean
- Spain: World Cup champions
- Tahiti: Winner Oceania Nation’s Cup
- Uruguay: South America
- Winner of CAF Africa Cup of Nations to be determined in February.
It takes place in Sao Paulo, Brazil with five of the national team coaches present. It is expected that more than 300 journalists will attend the event.
