Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger predicted Friday defender William Gallas would be sidelined for the rest of the Premier League season with a calf muscle injury which also puts his appearance at the World Cup with France in doubt.
The defender was carried off the field in Wednesday's 2-2 draw with Barcelona in the Champions League having only just returned from a layoff caused by the same injury.
Wenger, who also lost Cesc Fabregas and Andrei Arshavin with injuries in the same game, said he believed Gallas would be out for five weeks and admitted it was a mistake to rush him back for the Barcelona game.
"Gallas is longer than three weeks, I would say five weeks," Wenger said ahead of Saturday's game against Wolves. "It was a gamble which did not pay off and was a mistake, yes."
Wenger said Gallas might be back for the May 22 Champions League final, if Arsenal gets there.
The latest blow for Gallas comes on the day France coach Raymond Domenech was quoted as saying in sports daily L'Equipe that any player who is not in a position to play by May 18 will not go to South Africa.
