Now that the FIFA Confederations Cup is over, it's time for CBCSports.ca to unveil its tournament all-star team.
CBC Sports commentators Nigel Reed and Jason de Vos, and CBCSports.ca soccer expert John F, Molinaro have cast their votes. Here are the results:
GOALKEEPER
Tim Howard (United States): The American shot stopper came up with some huge saves when called upon, particularity against Spain and Brazil in the knockout stages.
DEFENDERS
Matthew Booth (South Africa): The hulking defender was a tower of strength, letting his presence be known with his uncompromising physical play.
Maicon (Brazil): The Inter Milan star gave width to the Brazilian attack with his penetrating runs down the right wing. Scored one goal, and set up another.
Oguchi Onyewu (United States): The MVP of the American squad. Onyewu was sensational against Spain, shutting down two of the game best strikers in Fernando Torres and David Villa.
Gerard Pique (Spain): The emerging Barcelona star played with a level of poise and maturity well beyond his 22 years.
MIDFIELDERS
Joan Capdevilla (Spain): One of Spain's unsung heroes, the Villarreal star was a revelation down the left wing.
Clint Dempsey (United States): Man of the match in the Americans' 2-0 win over Spain in the semis, Dempsey bagged three goals in the tournament and was a constant scoring threat.
Kaka (Brazil): Awarded the Golden Ball award by FIFA as tournament MVP, the Brazilian maestro pulled the creative strings for the Seleçao.
Xavi (Spain): The Barcelona midfielder was the driving force behind the Spanish attack, setting up teammates with countless scoring chances.
FORWARDS
Luis Fabiano (Brazil): The Sevilla striker was the top scorer in the tournament with five goals, including two in the final against the United States.
David Villa (Spain): Scored a goal in each of Spain's opening-round games, and outshone Torres by a wide margin.
