It's only September, but Canada already has its first medal of the ski season.

Dara Howell of Huntsville, Ont., won bronze in the women's slopestyle event Friday at a World Cup event in Ushuaia, Argentina.

The 17-year-old had a troubled first run but rallied to a score of 65.4 in her second try in a best-of-two runs final.

"I'm happy to be on the podium and happy to stay strong and put a run together on my second run," said Howell. "I'm looking forward to a great season and this is a nice start."

Keri Herman of the United States took gold with a score of 85.0 and Eveline Bhend of Switzerland got the silver at 79.8.

Quebec City's Alex Beaulieu-Marchand was the best-placed of the Canadian men at the event. He finished fourth with a score of 72.8 due to a touch down, just three days after winning the Super Continental Cup on the same Ushuaia course on Tuesday.
