Louis-Pierre Helie won men's downhill gold as Canada completed a podium sweep Wednesday at the U.S. downhill championships in Aspen, Colorado.

Dustin Cook won silver while Morgan Pridy took bronze to give Canada a podium sweep in the event for the first time in 17 years.

Helie, from Berthierville, Que., won the race in a time of one minute 43.24 seconds, while Cook, from Lac-Sainte-Marie, Que., clocked a time of 1:43.80.

Pridy, from Whistler, B.C., finished third in 1:43.86.

"Today was awesome," said Helie, who is recovering from a foot injury sustained in January in a World Cup downhill event in Wengen, Switzerland. "U.S. nationals where the Canadians sweep is pretty cool."

Helie's previous best result at the event was sixth in 2008.
