Norway's Emil Hegle Svendsen won a biathlon sprint Saturday at Nove Mesto, Czech Republic, in snowfall and changing winds to stretch his overall World Cup lead.

He overcame one penalty lap to finish the 10-kilometre race in 27 minutes 13.1 seconds for his 26th career victory.

French brothers Simon and Martin Fourcade finished second and third, the first time they made the podium together. Simon was 2.7 seconds behind after missing three targets. Martin was third, 9.6 seconds back.

The top U.S. finisher was Russell Currier in sixth place.

Svendsen leads the overall standings with 442 points from 11 events. Martin Fourcade is second with 396 points, followed by Andreas Birnbacher of Germany on 362.
