Overall World Cup ski champion Ivica Kostelic says he needs to have a minor knee surgery, which will sideline him from training for a few weeks.

Kostelic told Croatia's HINA news agency that an "enlarged bone" in his right knee hurts while skiing, although it does not bother him in everyday life.

He says, "the knee has lost its 100-per cent function, and that has to be repaired."

He says he hopes to get back to training about two to three weeks after surgery.

Croatia's Kostelic topped the men's overall standings during the past World Cup season after winning seven events.
