VanderBeek nearly captured a medal at the 2006 Torino Olympics, missing the podium by just 0.03 of a second. Born in Kapuskasing and raised in Kitchener, Ont., VanderBeek now resides with her husband, and fellow Olympian, David Ford in Chilliwack, B.C.
