The last nine skiers have been named to the Canadian Olympic team headed for Sochi in February, Alpine Canada announced Monday.

The six men and three women are:

  • Phil Brown, Toronto
  • Mike Janyk, Whistler, B.C.
  • Trevor Philp, Calgary
  • Morgan Pridy, Whistler, B.C.
  • Brad Spence, Calgary
  • Ben Thomsen, Invermere, B.C.
  • Erin Mielzynski, Collingwood, Ont.
  • Marie-Pier Préfontaine, Saint-Sauveur, Que.
  • Elli Terwiel, Sun Peaks, B.C.

Thomsen secured his place on Canada’s Olympic Alpine team after finishing 12th in the men’s World Cup downhill event Saturday in Kitzbeuhel, Austria.

Pridy booked his Olympic ticket Sunday – the final day of qualification – following a career-best 21st place in the men’s super-G event at the same Austrian venue.

Slalom specialist Mielzynski has struggled this season, but has been on the World Cup podium twice in her career. That includes a 2012 victory that was the first for a Canadian woman in the discipline in over 40 years.

Janyk will be on his third Olympic team. He won a bronze medal at the 2009 world championships, the first medal ever won by a Canadian man in the slalom at the worlds.

“This is a strong team with a mix of experienced podium contenders and talented young racers,” Paul Kristofic, Alpine Canada’s vice president of sports, said in a statement.

“This group has worked extremely hard to earn the right to represent Canada at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games. They will do everything they can to push for the podium and make Canada proud.”

Alpine Canada will be sending 15 skiers in total to Sochi. The federation had already nominated the first six Canadian skiers earlier this month:

  • Erik Guay, Mont-Tremblant, Que.
  • Jan Hudec, Calgary
  • Manuel Osborne-Paradis, Vancouver
  • Marie-Michèle Gagnon, Lac-Etchemin, Que.
  • Britt Phelan, Mont-Tremblant, Que.
  • Larisa Yurkiw, Owen Sound, Ont.

Those left off the list included speed racer Robbie Dixon and technical skier Julien Cousineau, who finished eighth in the slalom at the Vancouver Olympics. Both veterans were trying to regain elite form after serious injuries.
