  • John Chick U.S. Dream Team not invincible CBCSports.ca basketball blogger John Chick writes the United States is, on paper, too talented in transition to not be the favourite to win gold at the London Olympics. (Las Vegas Review-Journal, Jason Bean/Associated Press) When Kobe Bryant said that this incarnation of the "Dream Team" could beat the original 1992 version, he was rightfully eviscerated. The statement was as much gamesmanship as anything else, and given the perception (real or imagined) after various injuries that this American team is not as sound and gold-guaranteed as previous versions, it probably didn't hurt internally to stir the pot. • John Chick Canadian women could make some noise in London Fifteen-year veteran Teresa Gabriele, left, is the only player returning from Canada's last appearance at the Sydney Olympics in 2000. (CTK, Jaroslav Ozana/Associated Press) Canada will be cheering for the senior women's national team at the London Games as the squad makes their first Olympic appearance in 12 years. However, like most other Olympic sports, many won't think about everything that went in to getting there. Posted: Monday, July 23, 2012 | 10:44 AM

About the Author

John Chick Almost as cynical as a Toronto sports fan can get, John Chick has been around the NBA and other sports in one capacity or another for a decade, working at outlets such as Metro News Canada, Sun Media and TSN. He blogs on the NBA for CBCSports.ca and wishes Charles Oakley still played.
