When I returned from the London Olympics, I was hired as the head coach
of the Claremont High School Sports Institute for Rowing. This past
weekend I coached my first regatta, employing the skills I learned from
Mike Spracklen, the man who coached me to three world championships
titles with Canada's men's eight boat in 2002, 2003 and 2007, and to

Injured Horton making the trip
Nathan Horton will not play in Game 7, courtesy of the concussion
delivered by Vancouver's Aaron Rome in Game 3. But Horton was feeling
well enough to travel with his teammates to Vancouver prior to the

Massachusetts General Hospital. According to the Bruins, Horton was

There were 145 penalty minutes doled out by referees Dan O'Rourke and

BOSTON -- The Vancouver Canucks were not happy the slash from Boston
Bruins forward Rich Peverley on the back of Kevin Bieksa's knee in Game 2
on Saturday.

shot." Bieksa said that he believes in karma and that Peverley better

One giveaway buries Bruins
The start of overtime was so promising. Boston's Patrice Bergeron won
his 10th faceoff of the night (the No. 2 centre was 10-for-15), this
time against Henrik Sedin. Bergeron pulled the puck back to Andrew

Bergeron, Brad Marchand, and Mark Recchi started to sprint toward the
offensive zone, building up speed through centre ice for the rush they

Manny Malhotra didn't want to be a sideshow in his return after a 2 ½ month absence due to a serious left eye injury.
Instead, he was the main show for part of the Vancouver Canucks 3-2

the Stanley Cup Final switching to Boston for the next two games.

Marchand gives Bruins mouthy edge
During exit interviews last year, Brad Marchand boldly informed Boston coach Claude Julien that
he would score 20 goals in 2010-11. This season, the brash rookie forward came
through on his word, netting 21 goals in 77 games

Expectations have not changed for Marchand in the Stanley Cup Final.

Hamhuis, Malhotra game-time decisions
Manny Malhotra and Dan Hamhuis were classified as game-time decisions by
Vancouver Canucks head coach Alain Vigneault on Saturday.The

Prior to Raffi Torres's game-winning goal, Kevin Bieksa had started the
breakout with a long-distance bank off the boards. Johnny Boychuk saw
the pass, stepped up, and tried to pick it off.

With Boychuk caught up ice, Zdeno Chara had to fend off the odd-man
rush. Chara went down to try and stop Jannik Hansen's cross-ice dish to

referee Eric Furlatt. In the three previous Lightning playoff games
that Furlatt had officiated, the calls were 22-13 in favour of the

the Bruins' six. On April 25, in Tampa's 4-2 win over Pittsburgh, the

Thomas turns in a beauty for Bruins
Halfway through the third period, Tim Thomas made one of the best saves
of his career. With the Bruins holding a 2-1 lead, Thomas saw Eric
Brewer wind up from the point.
"I saw him getting ready to take the shot, but I couldn't see the puck,"
Thomas said. "That's probably why he had to shoot wide -- our guy
taking away the shooting lanes. I picked it up and it was somewhere
about halfway to me. I saw it was going wide."
Brewer's shot sailed wide of the net and glanced off the end boards. The
rebound came out to Steve Downie at the left post. Downie was looking
at a point-blank chance to tie the game.

fourth-liner Ben Eager to play in Game 3 on Friday and not in the press
box suspended for his hit on Vancouver Canucks sniper Daniel Sedin late

Eager was a central figure for all the wrong reasons in the Sharks' 7-3
loss to the Canucks in Game 2. He was called for a two-minute boarding
penalty on Sedin, a tripping penalty on Mason Raymond in the third
period, scored his team's lone goal in the frame before he took a
roughing penalty on goalie Roberto Luongo.

Ben Eager's night on the big stage was more bad than good, even down to
calling Kevin Bieksa "a phony . . . I can't believe they pay a guy like
that so much money."
But based on the returns to date, Bieksa is far more valuable to the

to practice with full equipment on. Malhotra, who also wore a full-face
