Canadian alpine skier Jean-Philippe Roy will miss the Vancouver Olympics because of a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.

The 30-year-old native of Ste-Flavie, Que., says he is now looking ahead to the world championships in 2011.

Roy will have surgery this Thursday.

Roy has participated in two Olympics and finished eighth in Salt Lake City in 2002.

The injury occurred during a giant slalom race in France on Sunday.
