Marielle Thompson earns World Cup ski cross bronze

Canadian Marielle Thompson earned a bronze medal in women's ski cross Saturday in Kreischberg, Austria. Thompson, of Whistler, B.C., stays top of the standings with 480 points. Katrin Mueller of Switzerland is second with 408.

Canadian Marielle Thompson earned a bronze medal in women's ski cross Saturday in Kreischberg, Austria.

Thompson, of Whistler, B.C., stays top of the standings with 480 points. Katrin Mueller of Switzerland is second with 408.

France's Ophelie David took the women's competition, beating Fanny Smith of Switzerland.

On the men's side, Alex Fiva of Switzerland won the final World Cup ski cross event before the Sochi Olympics.

Fiva defeated Johannes Rohrweck of Austria, Michael Schmid of Switzerland and Thomas Borge Lie of Norway in the final for his first victory of the season and sixth overall.

Victor Oehling Norberg of Sweden leads the World Cup standings with 319 points, only 3 clear of David Duncan, of London, Ont., and Andreas Matt of Austria, who share second.
