Brad Jacobs and Northern Ontario remained perfect at the Brier with a 5-3 victory over Jim Cotter's B.C. curlers to join Team Canada's Pat Simmons as the only undefeated rinks remaining after five draws.
Jacobs, the defending Olympic champion and 2013 Brier winner, stole single points in the second and sixth ends and that made all the difference as they secured their third consecutive win with a single in the ninth end before running B.C. out of rocks in the 10th.
Simmons' Team Canada rink moved to 3-0 in the Sunday afternoon draw thanks to a quick start as they stole a deuce from Jamie Koe's Northwest Territories in the first end rink en route to a 6-3 triumph.
Evening draw victories for Manitoba's Mike McEwen, 6-3 over Mike Kennedy of New Brunswick and by Newfoundland and Labrador's Brad Gushue, also by a 6-3 score over Northwest Territories, put McEwen and Gushue in a four-way tie for third place with 2-1 records.
Ontario's Glenn Howard and Alberta's Kevin Koe are also at 2-1 after five draws.
Play continues Monday with afternoon and evening draws beginning at 2:30 p.m. ET.
In the other afternoon games Alberta's Kevin Koe dumped Prince Edward Island's Adam Casey 10-4. Saskatchewan's Steve Laycock doubled B.C.'s Cotter 8-4 and Ontario's Howard shaded Newfoundland and Labrador's Gushue 4-3.
Manitoba's McEwen earned his first career Tim Hortons Brier victory Sunday morning with a 6-2 win over Ontario's Howard.
McEwen scored three in the seventh end and gave up a single in the eighth before the teams shook hands.
In the other early games, Alberta's Kevin Koe topped New Brunswick's Kennedy 10-4, Northern Ontario's Jacobs beat Quebec's Jean-Michel Menard 5-4 and Canada's Simmons edged Saskatchewan's Steve Laycock 5-4.
