Ted Ligety's season appears to be over after the American alpine skiing star said Wednesday that he tore a knee ligament during giant slalom training.
Ligety called the injury a "season ender" on his social media accounts.
The 31-year-old owns five World Cup giant slalom season titles, and has won the event at each of the last three world championships. He's also the reigning Olympic champion.
Ligety also won Olympic gold in the combined in 2006, and world titles in the combined and super-G in 2013.
Ligety ranks sixth on the World Cup giant slalom leaderboard this season.
