Canada's Sheila Reid captured both the 1,500 and 5,000-metre titles at the NCAA track and field championships, while Julie Labonte won the shot put with a Canadian-record throw.
Reid, a native of Newmarket, Ont., and a junior at Villanova, won the 1,500 at Drake Stadium on Saturday in four minutes 14.57 seconds. Lucy Van Dalen won the silver in 4:15.33, while Kate Van Buskirk of Brampton, Ont., a senior at Duke, was third in 4:15.37.
Reid's victory came a day after she claimed the 5,000-metre title.
Labonte, from Ste-Justine, Que., and a sophomore with the Arizona Wildcats, threw 18.31 metres on her second of six throws to top her own Canadian record of 18.21 she set earlier this season.
Oklahoma's Tia Brooks was second with 18.00 metres, while Tennessee's Annie Alexander won bronze with 17.66.
Matt Hughes of Oshawa, Ont., won the men's 3,000-metre steeplechase title for the second consecutive year. Hughes set a stadium record and personal best time of 8:24.87 on Friday night.
