Canada's Diane Roy captured Canada's first gold medal at the world track and field championships Saturday in Daegu, South Korea.

The Sherbrooke, Que., native won the 800-metre wheelchair race in one minute 50.91 seconds. Japan's Wakako Tsuchida took silver with a time of 1:51.11 and Rochelle Woods of Great Britain took bronze in 1:51.27.

Roy has won medals at several paralympic events in the past few years, including a bronze medal at the Paralympic worlds in January.
