Russia's Legkov wins World Cup cross-country race
Alex Harvey was the top Canadian with a 17th-place finish
Russia's Alexander Legkov won the men's 10-kilometre freestyle World Cup cross-country race on Saturday in Finland ahead of Petter Northug of Norway and Maurice Manificat of France.
Legkov finished in 21 minutes, 52.8 seconds. Northug was 6.8 seconds behind and Manificat trailed by 7.9.
The 29-year-old Russian said he had trained hard for increased fitness and would be even "better and better" during coming weeks.
Alex Harvey of St-Ferreol-les-Neiges, Que., was the top Canadian in 17th place. Ivan Babikov of Canmore, Alta., was 23rd.
Norway's Marit Bjorgen dominated the women's five-kilometre freestyle race with a winning time of 12 minutes, 2.9 seconds. Kikkan Randall of the United States was 22.7 seconds behind in second.
Russia's Yulia Tchekaleva was third, 24.5 seconds behind the winner. Norwegian women took the next five places.
Daria Gaiazova, of Banff, Alta., was the top Canadian in 40th place.
