3 Canadian junior pairs, dance entries in Top 10 at worlds
Canada's Katherine Bobak and Ian Beharry are sixth after the pairs short program at the world junior figure skating championships, while teammates Margaret Purdy and Michael Marinaro are right behind them in seventh.
Bobak and Beharry, from Guelph, Ont., scored 49.77 points Wednesday for their program to music from the "Out of Africa" soundtrack. Purdy, from Strathroy, Ont., and Marinaro, from Sarnia, Ont., scored 49.51.
"It was a good program and a good presentation," said Beharry, silver medallist with Bobak at the Junior Grand Prix Final. "We had a mishap on the loop but it wasn't too much of a big deal. The score and standing are fine, we just got to pick it up (Thursday)."
China's Wenjing Sui and Cong Han won the short program with 59.29 points for their skate to American country music, followed by teammates Xiaoyu Yu and Yang Jin. Ekaterina Petaikina and Maxim Kurdyukov of Russia were third.
Hayleigh Bell of Milton, Ont., and Alistair Sylvester of Stratford, Ont., were 12th.
Ice dancers 6th after short
Ice dancers Nicole Orford of Burnaby, B.C., and Thomas Williams of Okotoks, Alta., are sixth after the short program with 55.86 points. Andreanne Poulin and Marc-Andre Servant are 18th.
"We skated the best we have all season," said Orford. "We did our job and there is nothing else we could have asked for."
Russian teams took the top three spots, led by Victoria Sinitsina and Ruslan Zhiganshin, who scored 63.78.
Alexandra Stepanova and Ivan Bukin are second, followed by Anna Yanovskaya and Sergey Mozgov.
