Howard, Ferbey to meet in final
Glenn Howard of Coldwater, Ont., will try to win his second consecutive Grey Power Players' Championship when he takes on Randy Ferbey of Edmonton in the finals of the season's last Capital One Grand Slam of Curling event Sunday in Grande Prairie, Alta. (CBC, CBCSports.ca, noon ET).
Howard punched his ticket to the final after defeating Mike McEwen of Winnipeg by a score of 7-1.
Ferbey secured his spot with a 6-5 win over Kevin Martin, also of Edmonton.
The semifinal win by Howard also combined with Martin's loss to clinch the first men's Capital One Cup for Howard's rink. As the full-season Capital One Cup champions, Team Howard earned a $50,000 bonus.
"It's absolutely fantastic," Howard said. "It's the culmination of four different events. To win the Capital One Cup for the first time is pretty special. An extra $50,000 for the cup. Love it."
Ferbey and Martin have secured at least a top three finish in the Capital One Cup standings. The second- and third-place winners will be settled following the final between Howard and Ferbey.
Ferbey can guarantee second place in the standings and the bonus $25,000 with a win over Howard. The third-place team will win $10,000.
