This is the first time in more than two decades that a biathlon World Cup event has been held in Canada.

Nathan Smith is among the Canadians hoping to take advantage of the home course. He's one of only two Canadian men in history to win a World Cup biathlon race, and he currently ranks 19th in the overall standings.

Smith raced to a 16th place finish in the men's mass start event on Saturday, which was won by Italy's Dominic Windisch.

On the women's side, the top Canadian is 35th-ranked Rosanna Crawford.
