Over the past couple of weeks, we've been revisiting some great moments in Canadian Summer Olympic history on the days they happened. Today was golden for Alex Baumann and almost three decades later, Rosie MacLennan.

After winning the men's 400-metre individual medley five days earlier, Alex Baumann was looking to sweep the men’s IM events at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. In the 200-metre final, the swimmer from Sudbury, Ont., smashed his own world record by more than a second to win his second gold medal.

Twenty-eight years later, Canada was without a gold medal halfway through the 2012 Olympics. But Rosie MacLennan ended Canada's drought, finishing on top of the podium in the women's trampoline. It would turn out to be Canada's lone gold medal at the London Games.
