OUTLOOK: Perhaps the most important new face is Keenan, whose job is to take a team that underachieved a year ago and restore them to their once gritty, tough-to-play old selves. If that personality still exists.
It was often overlooked last season that the Flames were missing a lot of parts from the Cup run and were a different team in style and substance as a result.
Keenan's attitude will help to change the team's attitude and some of the parts were replaced to help with that part of the project. The goaltending remains excellent with Miikka Kiprusoff, the defence has been tweaked and appears a little tougher, and Jarome Iginla is still a terrific player and leader. This team has a lot to prove and has the coach to push them hard enough to keep the promise. They could be ready to make a big step forward this season.
