Yegorova cleared to run 5,000m after drug test thrown out
Gabriela Szabo of
Romania has threatened to boycott the 5,000 metre if Olga Yegorova is allowed to compete.
|
A Russian runner will be allowed to compete at the world championships after the
results of an apparently failed drug test were thrown out, The Associated Press learned Saturday.
Olga Yegorova of Russia, the world indoor champion at 3,000 metres, had been suspended by the
IAAF, track and field's world governing body, pending the result of a second test for the
endurance-boosting hormone EPO.

5,000m:
" I would certainly look at Ben Limo, Saidi-Sief,
if he chooses the 5000, and the little Kenyan
Sammy Kipketer. But you've got so many Kenyans
to choose from - the winner could be any could
Kenyan or Moroccan. (For the women) Masai
looks very promising, but I'm not going to rid
of Szabo just yet. She seems to be missing the
big kick she had last year, but she could do it.
10,000m:
No one can touch Gebrselassie if he's fit. (On
the women's side) Gete Wami and Derartu Tulu from
Ethiopia would have to be in there, and Paula
Radcliffe is still great, although the marathon
seems to be ahead for her and where she will really
make her mark.

For years,
the apparently methodical pace and gradually unfolding dynamics
of the distance races, along with the fact that few North Americans
are involved, have not made them a great favourite of North
American television producers.
