Wild's Burns gets 2 games for Bernier butt-end
Panthers winger needs facial surgery
Florida winger Steve Bernier was expected to undergo surgery to repair a fractured orbital bone on Saturday afternoon, the team announced.
The Panthers forward was butt-ended in the face by Minnesota's Brent Burns right at the buzzer of Friday night's 2-1 Florida victory.
Burns was given a two-game suspension by the National Hockey League on Saturday.
Panthers general manager Dale Tallon said there would be no further information on the extent of the injury or the timetable for recovery until next week.
After the game, Burns told reporters he didn't know what had happened.
"It happened. I said sorry. I just saw he was bleeding there," said Burns, who does not have a history of this type of incident. "I didn't mean to do that. He just came at me, and I think it was my glove that got him. I don't know."
