There will be three suitors for the right to host the 2010 Memorial Cup, junior hockey's premier event.

Western Hockey League officials said Friday the Brandon Wheat Kings in Manitoba, the Everett Silvertips in Washington state, and the Kelowna Rockets in British Columbia have all applied to have the tournament in their city.

Bid presentations will take place on Oct. 15 in Calgary before the Western league's board of governors.

The week-long Memorial Cup tournament features two teams from the host league plus the champions of the Ontario Hockey League and the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League respectively.

As well, hosting the event not only brings an economic boost for the host city, it also guarantees a spot in the Memorial Cup tournament for the host team.
