Oh, how the times have changed since Winnipeg Jets General Manager Mike
Smith traded Kris Draper to Detroit for the princely sum of $1 back in
1993. That princely sum of yesteryear can turn into a King's ransom in
today's marketplace, even in a salary cap era.

to get younger and cheaper.

That is exactly what Brian Burke did to the Maple Leafs franchise when he acquired Dion Phaneuf and J.S. Giguere. And that is precisely the same impact each general manager would like to accomplish at the trade deadline on March 3.
