Hockey Night in Canada's 59th season on CBC begins this weekend, and it was announced on Thursday that five new members are joining the team to help bring the game to the fans from every angle.
Gord Stellick, with nearly three decades of experience in the hockey world, is the new host of Hockey Night in Canada Radio on Sirius. The show returns with a special broadcast Monday from St. John's, the site of Kraft Hockeyville 2011.
Andi Petrillo will join returning HNIC personality P.J. Stock as co-host of Game Day, the interactive Saturday afternoon show at 5 p.m. ET that will set up the night's slate. Game Day debuts on Oct. 8.
With the addition of a seventh Canadian franchise in Winnipeg, there will be 104 regular season clashes presented on HNIC.
That means more ground to cover, and Hockey Night has added three experienced hockey broadcasters to help.
David Amber is the new rinkside reporter for the show, while Rick Ball and Daryl Reaugh join as Western-based play-by-play and colour commentator, respectively.
HNIC presents a pre-season doubleheader on Saturday. Toronto and the Sabres face off in Buffalo at 7 p.m. ET, followed by Anaheim battling Vancouver at 10 p.m. ET.
Opening night of the regular-season schedule is on Thursday, Oct. 6, with a doubleheader featuring the Maple Leafs hosting the Montreal Canadiens, followed by the Canucks beginning its quest for another Stanley Cup Final berth against Pittsburgh.
CBC's regular season hockey schedule again includes NHL's Winter Classic and All-Star Game, which will take place in Ottawa.
All seven Canadian teams will be in action as part of the annual Hockey Day in Canada festivities, on Feb. 11. The celebration will be hosted from Prince Edward Island.
