Woywitka has split his time since the lockout between the NHL and the American Hockey League.
The defenceman has played 251 NHL games with St. Louis and Dallas, scoring eight goals and 41 assists to go along with 149 penalty minutes. He suited up for 63 games with the Stars in 2010-11, with two goals, nine assists and a plus-5 rating.
Woywitka won a Memorial Cup with the Red Deer Rebels in 2001, as well as a silver medal with Canada at the 2003 world junior championships.
The six-foot-three Vermillion, Alta., native was part of the organizations of Philadelphia and Edmonton before making his NHL debut with the Blues. The Flyers selected him 27th overall in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
Woywitka, who turns 28 in September, earned an NHL salary last season of $700,000 US, according to Capgeek.com.
