Montreal's Josh Gorges missed over half the season in 2010-11 after playing in all but one regular season game over the previous two seasons. (Ryan Remiorz/Canadian Press)The Montreal Canadiens announced on Friday that defenceman Josh Gorges has been re-signed to a one-year contract.
Gorges, 26, was a restricted free agent who had filed for salary arbitration.
The defenceman had one goal and six assists in 36 games the past season, which was cut short in January when he required surgery after tearing ligaments in his right knee.
"Josh is recovering extremely well from his knee injury that kept him out of the lineup for half of the regular season and the playoffs," Montreal general manager Pierre Gauthier said in a statement. "We look forward to seeing him at training camp."
The Kelowna, B.C., native has been a staple on the Montreal blue-line for four seasons after being acquired in a 2006-07 trade with San Jose.
He has scored nine goals and added 50 assists in 364 NHL games, with 183 penalty minutes.
Gorges went undrafted after playing four seasons with the Kelowna Rockets.
The Canadiens did not release salary information, but multiple reports indicated the deal was worth $2.5 million US, nearly double his previous salary.
