Jared Britton played with the University of Wisconsin-Stout Blue Devils hockey team. UW-StoutJared Britton, a former Regina hockey player who was attending school in Wisconsin, has been found not guilty of charges relating to the death of Bradley Simon, a fellow student.
Britton, 24, was originally charged with felony murder but went to trial on felony charges of aggravated battery.
He was found not guilty Friday after a week-long jury trial.
Simon, 22, died following an altercation outside a Wisconsin bar Sept. 18, 2010. The man fell from his bike and died in hospital from head injuries.
Another man, who was also charged in the death, will have his trial later this year.
According to police reports at the time, there had been an argument in the Log Jam Tavern involving Simon, Britton and other bar patrons.
The parties were separated by tavern employees and later left.
Simon was riding away on his bicycle when he was allegedly confronted by Britton and another man. In that encounter police said Simon crashed into a concrete wall.
Britton, a graduate of Regina's Winston Knoll Collegiate, was playing hockey with the university's Blue Devils.
