The Hotstove panel on Saturday night's Hockey Night in Canada show had the inside scoop on Friday's closed-door meeting between the Toronto Maple Leafs' players and the struggling team's senior vice-president, Dave Nonis, at their practice facility.

"[Nonis's] message, according to a player that told me, is 'Don't look for the solution outside this room. It has to come from in here,'" ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun said. "'Stop waiting for the big trade and … there's not going to be a coaching change. It comes from within. You guys get it done.'"

"It's almost like they got the blueprint from Calgary," Sun Media's Eric Francis said. "They did the same thing a couple of weeks earlier to get these guys on track."

Mike Milbury said the Maple Leafs' players need to get the message.

"I think a different voice sometimes helps, and you know what? They better believe it," Milbury said. "I don't think [GM] Brian [Burke] or Dave goes out on a limb and says this stuff.

"That doesn't mean the coach [Ron Wilson] is safe forever or there's not going to be trades somewhere down the line, but they're gonna go with this hand and they're gonna keep on pressing to get more out of the crew that they have."
