The Calgary Flames will sport retro jerseys for February's Heritage Classic against the Montreal Canadiens as the NHL rekindles its special outdoor matchup.

The Canadian teams will face off Feb. 20 at Calgary's McMahon Stadium, which is expected to sell out.

The game will be broadcast live on CBC's Hockey Night in Canada and streamed on CBCSports.ca.

"It could be as warm as now or it be colder than words can describe," Calgary Flames president Ken King said Wednesday, flanked by players and executives from both teams as well as the National Hockey League at a news conference.

King said more seats will be added to McMahon Stadium's regular capacity of 35,650, but not as many as the 46,020 for the 2009 Grey Cup game.

Calgary defenceman Steve Staios — who played in the original Heritage Classic in 2003 in sub-zero temperatures in Edmonton — modelled the orange and red jersey his team will wear, while Montreal will sport uniforms that look similar to their modern-day jerseys.

The Flames jerseys were inspired by the Calgary Tigers, the city's first professional team, who were defeated by the Montreal Canadiens for the Stanley Cup in 1924.

The Western Hockey League is also joining the hoopla by announcing that the Calgary Hitmen will play the Regina Pats at the outdoor football stadium the day after the Heritage Classic.

Staios played in the first and only previous Heritage Classic, in Edmonton's Commonwealth Stadium in 2003. The NHL's first regular-season outdoor game saw the Montreal Canadiens beat the Oilers 4-3.

Since then, the NHL has hosted three other outdoor games under the Winter Classic banner — all in the U.S.

The Pittsburgh Penguins will face the Washington Capitals on New Year's Day 2011 at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh in the fourth Winter Classic. It will be the first time the NHL hosts two outdoor games in one season.
