CBCSports.ca senior hockey reporter Tim Wharnsby selects the three stars from Thursday night in the NHL.
FIRST STAR: Anton Volchenkov, D, Ottawa
After six goals, 11 points and 24 shots on goal in his previous four games, Washington's Alexander Ovechkin ran into a wall in Volchenkov. In Ottawa's 6-5 home victory, Volchenkov blocked a whopping 11 shots and held Ovechkin to just one shot on goal and an assist.
SECOND STAR: Evgeni Nabokov, G, San Jose
The Sharks netminder and Russian Olympian made a career-high 50 saves and three more in the shootout in San Jose's 3-2 win in Detroit. Wouldn't it be something if the Sharks and Red Wings clashed in the first round of the playoffs?
THIRD STAR: Alexander Semin, LW, Washington
The Capitals forward scored three times and assisted on another in Washington's loss at Ottawa. The Russian Olympian has four goals and seven points in his past four outings.
