Calgary's Jarome Iginla scored one third of the Flames' goals in November. (Larry MacDougal/Canadian Press) Calgary Flames captain Jarome Iginla is providing the bulk of his team's offence, and the NHL rewarded him Tuesday by naming him the league's player of the month for November.
The Edmonton native scored one-third of Calgary's 39 goals for the month (13), and assisted on seven more as the Flames blistered to a 10-2-2 November record, vaulting themselves into first place in the Northwest Division.
Three of Iginla's 13 goals were game-winners, and he notched his ninth career hat trick during a 5-2 victory over Los Angeles on Nov. 21.
The 32-year-old leads Calgary with 17 goals and 12 assists, and his 29 points is good for a tie for 12th in the NHL.
San Jose's Joe Thornton was named the league's second star of the month, and the New York Rangers' Marian Gaborik was third.
Thornton, 30, led his NHL-leading Sharks in scoring for the month, with four goals and 16 assists. The London, Ont., native hit 600 career assists on Nov. 20, during a 6-3 win over Philadelphia where he potted four helpers.
He is tied for the NHL scoring lead with Gaborik, with seven goals and 30 assists.
Gaborik, a Slovak, had 11 goals and eight assists for the month, and notched a point in 11 of the Rangers' 13 games in that span. The 27-year-old forward has 21 goals and 16 assists overall.
