Hockey Canada will deliver invitations for the under-20 selection camp on Wednesday.
From that camp, held in Regina on Dec. 12-16, the final 22-player roster will be determined to represent Canada at the 2010 world junior tournament in Saskatoon and Regina, Dec. 26 to Jan. 5.
Canada is striving for an unprecedented sixth gold medal in a row.
The 19-year-old Pietrangelo will be on the invite list and St. Louis will allow him to attend the camp if the Blues remain healthy on the blue-line.
Pietrangelo has not played for St. Louis since Nov. 19.
His inclusion would help the Canadian junior team's experience. He would be one of seven possible returnees from last year’s championship team.
The others are: Regina Pats Colton Teubert and Jordan Eberle, Rimouski Oceanic forward Patrice Cormier, Barrie forward Stefan Della Rovere, Windsor Spitfires defenceman Ryan Ellis and Brampton Battalion forward Cody Hodgson.
The 19-year-old Hodgson, however, has not returned to action since being among the final cuts at the training camp of the Vancouver Canucks. He suffered a back injury training in July.
The aliment was misdiagnosed as a bulging disc by a Toronto specialist and the Canucks medical staff. After visiting the renowned Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, it was determined that Hodgson had a nerve problem.
Hockey Canada senior director Brad Pascall indicated on Monday that Hodgson will be on invite list and that he is hopeful Hodgson will be able to attend the selection camp and work himself into game form.
