Boston's Milan Lucic is out four weeks with a high ankle sprain, the team said on Friday.

Lucic's skate hit a rut and he landed awkwardly during Boston's game against Minnesota on Wednesday, and limped off the ice.

"Hopefully this is the last of his injuries this year," Bruins coach Claude Julien said before Friday's game against New Jersey. "It was just a rut in the ice and his foot went the wrong way."

It's the second time the rugged winger has been hurt this season. Lucic broke his right index finger in mid-October and missed a month of action.

"It's something we've been dealing with since the start of the season," Julien said. "We'll be without him a month. Maybe less."

The 21-year-old fan favourite signed a three-year contract extension worth $12.25 million US a week into the season, which will keep the forward in Boston until 2012-13.

The Vancouver native has two goals and three assists in 10 games played this season.
