Maple Leafs head coach Ron Wilson, centre, has taken a more calm approach of late to his team's season-long struggles. "We have to stick with [the game plan] and score. I know we will," he said earlier this week.
(Darren Calabrese/Canadian Press)It appears Ron Wilson is growing tired of being the Toronto Maple Leafs' whipping boy.
After spending much of the early part of the NHL season calling out his players and the team as a whole for its various deficiencies, the head coach has opted for a more calming approach of late.
"We missed the net a lot of times and I'll bet we had 100 shots altogether. I just don't want our team to get frustrated," Wilson told reporters after his team peppered New York Islanders goalie Dwayne Roloson with 61 shots on Monday but managed to fall 4-3 in overtime.
"We're averaging 35 shots [a game] so we have to stick with it and score. I know we will."
Or maybe the 4-11-7 Leafs will continue to pay for their poor execution, lack of finish, penchant for turning over the puck and inconsistent goaltending.
How else can Toronto continue to give away two points?
