The losses continue to pile up for the Toronto Maple Leafs in the standings and the infirmary.

Goaltender Vesa Toskala and centre John Mitchell are the latest players to be placed on injured reserve, joining defencemen Mike Komisarek and Mike Van Ryn. Blue-liner Jeff Finger is day to day with a lower-body ailment.

Toskala, who had last season cut short by hip and groin problems, tweaked a groin in the second period of Monday's 4-3 shootout loss to the visiting New York Islanders.

The 32-year-old Toskala has a 1-4-2 record, 3.91 goals-against average and .865 save percentage in 10 games this season.

Former Islanders goalie Joey MacDonald was recalled Tuesday from the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League.

He has a 2-4-0 mark, 2.83 GAA and .892 save percentage in six games as a Marlie. He was winless in three games (0-3-0) for the parent club with a 3.35 GAA and .875 save percentage.

Mitchell, 24, suffered a knee injury in Monday's setback. He has two goals and nine points on the season.

Forward Christian Hanson was summoned from the Marlies to take his roster spot. He ranks first on the team in scoring and second among all AHL rookies with 18 points in 18 games.

The 4-11-7 Maple Leafs are in Florida this week for games against Tampa Bay and the Panthers on Wednesday and Friday.
