Thornton named NHL's 1st star

Sharks forward led all players with 8-point week

San Jose Sharks centre Joe Thornton was named the NHL's first star of the week Monday after leading all scorers with eight points last week.

Thornton had two goals, six assists and a plus-3 rating in three games.

Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price was named second star and Ottawa Senators centre Mike Fisher took the third star.

Price posted a 2-0-1 record with a 1.89 goals-against average and .940 save percentage last week.

Fisher recorded six points (2-4) and a plus-5 rating to help the Senators win three consecutive games.
